Worldwide Changes in Vegetation Since the Last Ice Ages (IMAGE)
Caption
These maps show how the planet's vegetation changed from the last ice age (21,000 to 14,000 years ago) to the pre-industrial era. Each square represents an individual research site. The orange squares on the map on the left shows the changes in plant species. The green squares on the map on the right shows the change in the community structure--for example, tundra becoming forest. The darker the squares the greater the change. The blue background shows how much temperature changed at that site since the last ice age -- the darker the blue, the more the temperature increase.
