まず光ポンプパルスで電子を励起して励起子を生成する。その後、極端紫外光パルスの光子が励起子内の電子を物質から電子顕微鏡内の真空中に取り出す。飛び出してきた電子のエネルギーと角度を電子顕微鏡で測定する。
