The pH-dependent Metabolic Switch of the Cholera Pathogen Vibrio cholerae (IMAGE)
Caption
The pH-dependent metabolic switch of the cholera pathogen Vibrio cholerae: During anaerobic conditions the bacteria arrest growth an preserve their viability. Under higher pH-conditions in the lower small intestine, the pathogen activiate its nitrate/nitrite metabolism and proliferation which enables the organism to massively colonize the host and cause cholera disease.
