Restoring Vision with Stem Cells (2 of 2) (IMAGE)
Caption
Age-related macular degeneration could be treated by transplanting photoreceptors produced by the directed differentiation of stem cells, thanks to findings published today by Professor Gilbert Bernier of the University of Montreal and its affiliated Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital. This image illustrates the 3D reconstruction of the tissue that was produced in vitro and labeled with antibodies against photoreceptor-specific proteins.
