Brain Function Changes Occur Before Plaques Form (AUDIO)

People with a known risk for Alzheimer’s disease seem to develop abnormal brain function even before the appearance of amyloid plaques in the brain. A new study from Washington University researchers has found that patients with a particular form of the apolipoprotein E (APOE) gene called APOE4, display abnormal brain function long before they have any symptoms or detectable damage related to Alzheimer’s disease.
