Left cell: The cellular defense works. The MXR transporter pumps potentially detrimental chemicals out of the cell. Right cell: The cellular defense is disturbed by chemosensitizers that block the transporter. As a consequence the detrimental compounds cannot be pumped out and accumulate inside the cell.
