Rice University astronomers Laura Flagg and Christopher Johns-Krull with an artist's impression of a star system similar to that of CI Tau. They and colleagues from Lowell Observatory, the University of Texas at Austin and UT Austin's McDonald Observatory used spectral data to make the first direct measurement of the mass and brightness of young "hot Jupiter" planet CI Tau b.
