メカノフォア分子が短く凝集したプリウレタンポリマー内に注入されている。下図：励起源（ここでは紫外線）下で、物理的な力（この場合はFで示されている引っ張り応力）がポリマーに加わると、メカノフォアは発光強度を増大させる（ここではForceという英単語で示している）。
