University of Utah biologist Mike Shapiro, with mosquito netting for protection, walks along one of the Fox Holes Lakes in Canada's Northwest Territories. Shapiro collects stickleback fish from this and other lakes and the ocean for studies of the genetics of diversity in the animal world, and how identical traits in different species can arise sometimes from the same gene, and sometimes from different genes.
