Acta Pharmaceutica Sinica B (APSB) was founded with the goal of creating a global high-level forum centred around drug discovery and pharmaceutical research/application. APSB was included by Chemical Abstracts in 2011, accepted by PubMed Central in 2015, indexed by Science Citation Index in 2017 and has evolved to become one of the most important international journals in the field of pharmaceutical sciences.

APSB is a monthly journal, in English, which publishes significant original research articles, rapid communications and high-quality reviews of recent advances in all areas of pharmaceutical sciences — including pharmacology, pharmaceutics, medicinal chemistry, natural products, pharmacognosy, pharmaceutical analysis and pharmacokinetics.

Articles of interest in this issue include:

Targeting stroma and tumor, silencing galectin 1 treats orthotopic mouse hepatocellular carcinoma by Tahereh Setayesh et al. ( Targeting Gal1 is effective in preventing as well as treatment of HCC and has translational potential.

High-throughput screening of novel TFEB agonists in protecting against acetaminophen-induced liver injury in mice by Xiaojuan Chao et al. ( Genetic and pharmacological activation of TFEB increases lysosomal biogenesis that promotes clearance of acetaminophen adducts resulting in protection against AILI. qHTS is a very useful platform to identify novel mTOR-dependent and independent TFEB agonists that may have translational therapeutic value for targeting drug-induced liver injury.

Identification of a natural PLA2 inhibitor from the marine fungus Aspergillus sp. c1 for MAFLD treatment that suppressed lipotoxicity by inhibiting the IRE-1α/XBP-1s axis and JNK signaling by Yong Rao et al. ( The identified marine fungus metabolite HN-001 ameliorates lipotoxicity by suppressing IRE-1α/XBP-1s axis and JNK pathway for MAFLD treatment with PLA2 as an upstream target.

Mitochondria-specific near-infrared photoactivation of peroxynitrite upconversion luminescent nanogenerator for precision cancer gas therapy by Hui Yu et al. ( The peroxynitrite upconversion nanogenerator NRh-Ph-NO nanoparticles empowered with superior mitochondrial targeting could induce reactive nitrogen species-potentiated precision gas therapy guided by frequency upconversion luminescence imaging upon 808 nm laser irradiation.
