In order to better understand the current position of the European Union regarding AI and to discuss the role of different stakeholders in ensuring sustainable AI innovation , a consortium of four European universities leading in AI research invites you to the seminar “European Leadership in Secure and Trustworthy AI” on Wednesday, 14 February, at the Permanent Representation of Estonia to the EU, Rue Guimard 11/13, 1040 Brussels.
To foster a resilient Europe in the Digital Decade, individuals and businesses should be able to reap the benefits of AI confidently and securely. In this event, we will delve into discussions on the steps that Europe must take, both at the national and academic level, to ensure sustainable and trustworthy AI innovation. The event focuses on three crucial aspects of safe AI: security, accuracy, and ethical deployment.
Secure and trustworthy AI is the talk of the town for various reasons. It is becoming increasingly intertwined with the economy and security of Europe and beyond.
The European AI Strategy seeks to position the EU as a world-class hub for AI and aims at ensuring that AI is human-centric and trustworthy. Such an objective is reflected in the European commitment to excellence and trust, implemented through concrete rules and actions. Estonia is a notable example of how artificial intelligence solutions are already being implemented on a large scale to ensure better, more secure and human-centric public services.
“AI is already changing the way Estonian public services are delivered and creating new business opportunities. We need a high-quality science-led national conversation about the opportunities and the risks of AI. Moreover, we must ensure that cutting-edge research builds capacity for Estonia to maintain its leadership in the field, supporting the European approach to privacy and AI regulation, and contributing to its digital sovereignty,” says Pawel Sobocinski, Tenured Full Professor of Trustworthy Software Technologies and Head of the Laboratory for Compositional Systems and Methods of Tallinn University of Technology.
The seminar discussions will be led by several esteemed keynote speakers, each covering different aspects of the subject. Estonian MP and former Minister of Entrepreneurship and IT, Andres Sutt will talk about building next-generation public services based on artificial intelligence. TalTech IT Professor Pawel Sobocinski will provide an academic perspective with a presentation titled “Developing a Secure and Trustworthy AI with Correctness, Security and Responsible Deployment”. The panel discussion aims to bring together the perspectives of academia, the public and the private sector to examine the role of these three core focus areas in bringing Europe to a leadership position in AI.
The seminar will be followed by a networking session.
