Washington, D.C. (March 12, 2024) — The Association for Psychological Science, the leading global organization dedicated to advancing scientific psychology for the benefit of science and society, is revamping its roster of regularly scheduled events to better foster global scientific collaboration and environmental sustainability.

Starting in 2025, APS will merge its Annual Convention and the biennial International Convention of Psychological Science (ICPS). The new APS Annual Convention will rotate outside of North America every 3 years.

“By integrating our meetings, APS will produce powerful and effective global scientific events that reflect the richness and diversity of the entire psychological science community,” said APS Chief Executive Officer Robert Gropp. “This scientific meeting will provide greater accessibility, ensuring that attendees from all parts of the world can participate more easily in APS programs.”

APS will also be considering environmental sustainability in its event planning, Gropp added. These efforts include securing facilities that are close to public transportation, minimize their food waste and use renewable energy, he said.

As another step towards accessibility, sustainability and greater collaboration on a global scale, APS is  launching a new APS Global Psychological Science Summit in October 2024. This online summit will offer an additional, and sustainable, avenue for scientific exchange and collaboration among psychological scientists. The program is focused on facilitating advances in global psychological science and will include workshops, roundtable discussions and opportunities for poster presentation. Submissions for workshops and posters will open in June, and more information will be available soon on the APS website

These upcoming events advance three goals in APS’ strategic plan: strengthen the global psychological science community, make psychological science more meaningful in the public sphere and wisely and efficiently use resources to advance the organization’s mission.
