Alexandria, VA, USA – The International Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research (IADR) has announced Shivangi Singh as the winner of the 2024 IADR David B. Scott Fellowship. Singh, from King George’s Medical University, Lucknow, India, was recognized during the Opening Ceremonies of the 102nd General Session of the IADR, which was held in conjunction with the 53rd Annual Meeting of the American Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research and the 48th Annual Meeting of the Canadian Association for Dental Research, on March 13-16, 2024, in New Orleans, LA.

Singh is currently a Final Professional Year student pursuing BDS at King George's Medical University in Lucknow, India. She is the recipient of the Shri Akhilesh Kumar Misra and Shri Ajay Kumar Gold Medal and Book Prize for obtaining the highest marks in the BDS 2nd Professional Examination. Additionally, she has received several silver medals for exceptional performance in subjects including Dental Materials, Pharmacology, and Pre-Clinical Prosthodontics.

In 2023, Singh was granted the Intramural Short Term Medical Research Fellowship for Undergraduates at her university. She was also selected for the Indian Council of Medical Research - Short Term Studentship (ICMR-STS) with a grant of 50,000 INR. Her current research project aims to investigate the competence of dental students across India in performing simple dental procedures such as fabrication of complete dentures, tooth restorations, and tooth extractions. This research is crucial for evaluating the quality of dental care provided by aspiring dentists in India, thereby contributing to the enhancement of oral health standards and overall quality of life.

The David B. Scott Fellowship is traditionally awarded annually to one dental student in one IADR Division and will rotate among the Divisions. It is the Division's responsibility to select the recipient by any method it devises, but the Division must present the candidate's name and the proposal for his or her research experience to the IADR Board for approval. The David B. Scott Fellowship is funded at US$2,500 and is awarded in 2024 in the IADR Indian Division.
