Fiorella Ventura named winner of the 2024 IADR Norton Ross Fellowship

Alexandria, VA, USA – The International Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research (IADR) has announced Fiorella Ventura as the winner of the 2024 IADR Norton Ross Fellowship. Ventura, from the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina, was recognized during the Opening Ceremonies of the 102nd General Session of the IADR, which was held in conjunction with the 53rd Annual Meeting of the American Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research and the 48th Annual Meeting of the Canadian Association for Dental Research, on March 13-16, 2024, in New Orleans, LA.

Ventura holds the position of Instructor at the Department of Preventive and Community Dentistry at the University of Buenos Aires, where she carries out teaching responsibilities for courses on Preventive and Minimally Invasive Dentistry. In these courses, she provides instruction related to diagnosis, prevention, and interventions corresponding to the primary level of care, with a focus on prevalent oral cavity diseases, specifically dental caries.

Ventura is currently participating as a researcher in training in the following projects funded by the University of Buenos Aires: "Evaluation of risk factors and strategies for the prevention and treatment of prevalent oral diseases in individuals facing high social vulnerability" and "Design and evaluation of strategies for the prevention and treatment of prevalent oral diseases in populations experiencing high social vulnerability." Her specific contributions have been in epidemiology of dental caries, strategies for stabilizing dental caries, and removing decayed dental tissue with minimal intervention. She is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Dentistry with the research topic, "Design and evaluation of a proteolytic enzyme release system for the chemical treatment of dental caries," which is aimed at developing innovative solutions for the treatment of dental caries.

The IADR Norton Ross Fellowship allows a dental or postgraduate student to obtain training and experience in dental or related research. It is awarded every other year and rotates among the IADR Divisions. The 2024 award has been designated for the IADR Argentine Division. The IADR funds the Fellowship to the amount of $2,800 to be provided to the successful candidate.
