Journal of Nutrition Education and Behavior announces 2024 Best Article, Best Research Brief, and GEM Awards

Philadelphia, October 9, 2024 – The Journal of Nutrition Education and Behavior (JNEB) is pleased to announce the 2024 Best Article, Best Research Brief, and GEM (Great Educational Material) awards. These awards were presented at the Society for Nutrition Education and Behavior's (SNEB) 2024 International Conference, held July 29 – August 1 in Knoxville, TN, and hosted online. These awards recognize the authors of the outstanding articles in each category published in the prior year in JNEB, as judged by members of the Journal Committee and JNEB Board of Editors. Lead authors receive a monetary award, and articles are recognized on the Journal website.

The Best Article Award was presented to authors Alison Jane Martingano, PhD, Sydney H. Telaak, BA, Emma M. Schopp, BS, Christopher Fortney, BFA, Alexander P. Dolwick, BS, Susan Carnell, PhD, Sapna Batheja, PhD, and Susan Persky, PhD, for their article “Using Educational Videos and Perspective-Taking to Communicate Gene-By-Environment Interaction Concepts about Eating Behavior: Effects on Empathy and Weight Stigma.”

The Best Research Brief Award was presented to authors Samara R. Sterling, PhD, RD, and Shelly-Ann Bowen, PhD, for their article “Effect of a Plant-based Intervention Among Black Individuals in the Deep South: A Pilot Study.”

The Best GEM Award was presented to authors Virginia C. Stage, PhD, RDN, Jessica Resor, PhD, Jocelyn Dixon, MS, MPH, Archana V. Hegde, PhD, BK, Lucía I. Méndez, PhD, CCC-SLP, Tammy Lee, PhD, Raven Breinholt, L. Suzanne Goodell, PhD, RDN, Valerie J. McMillan, PhD, and Evon Murphy Gilliam, MAEd, for their article “More PEAS Please! Teaching Teachers How to Integrate Food-based Learning Into Preschool Science.

JNEB Editor-in-Chief Lauren Haldeman, PhD, Professor and Chair, Department of Nutrition, University of North Carolina Greensboro, congratulates the award recipients, "Each year, selecting the winners of the ‘Best’ awards becomes increasingly challenging due to the consistently high-quality research published in JNEB.
