WASHINGTON— The Society for Cardiovascular Angiography & Interventions (SCAI) once again hosted its flagship outreach initiative, “Ready to Launch: Careers in Cardiology,” on Saturday, May 3, 2025, during the 2025 SCAI Scientific Sessions in Washington, DC.

Now in its third year, Ready to Launch connects medical students and early-career residents with leaders in interventional cardiology, offering early insight into the field, exposure to real-world clinical scenarios, and lasting professional relationships. This year’s event is being held in collaboration with the Association of Black Cardiologists (ABC) to expand outreach and strengthen efforts to support a more diverse pipeline of future physicians.

More than 75 students have participated in the program to date.

“As interventional cardiologists, we know how important it is to offer mentorship and visibility to the next generation,” said Triston B. B. J. Smith, MD, FSCAI, Chair of the SCAI Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee and Medical Director at Trinity Health System. “This program allows students to see what’s possible and to see themselves reflected in the specialty.”

“Ready to Launch is designed to help students discover their passion and connect with others on the same path,” said Aaron Horne, MD, MBA, MHS, Co-Chair of the SCAI Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee and structural and peripheral cardiologist at Summit Health. “We want participants to leave feeling inspired, informed, and empowered to consider a future in interventional cardiology.”

The program is open to medical students enrolled in U.S. medical schools and residents in accredited training programs.
