THE EUROPEAN SOCIETY FOR PAEDIATRIC ENDOCRINOLOGY AND THE EUROPEAN SOCIETY OF ENDOCRINOLOGY JOIN TOGETHER THIS WEEKEND FOR THEIR INAUGURAL JOINT CONGRESS – “CONNECTING ENDOCRINOLOGY ACROSS THE LIFE COURSE”

The first ever Joint Congress between the European Society for Paediatric Endocrinology (ESPE) and the European Society of Endocrinology (ESE) starts today, Saturday 10 May and runs until Tuesday 13 May 2025. This truly joint landmark event, ‘Connecting Endocrinology Across the Life Course’, brings together paediatric and adult endocrine specialists from across Europe and the rest of the world to meet, collaborate and celebrate endocrinology at The Bella Center in Copenhagen, Denmark.

The event provides a unique opportunity for learning new perspectives and enabling scientific exchanges, coupled with extensive networking opportunities to make new connections with colleagues working in endocrinology across the whole life course.

The Congress has attracted over 7,500 delegates from over 100 countries to experience the latest endocrine research and developments in both paediatric and adult endocrinology. The Congress attracted 3440 abstracts, demonstrating the interest of the global endocrine community to share their latest research with peers across the whole discipline.

The unique programme has been compiled by a joint Scientific Programme Committee, creating over 100 sessions from over 300 speakers running in 11 parallel tracks, attractive to both paediatric and adult endocrinologists, including innovative joint sessions involving transition and other highly relevant topics to both disciplines. Additionally, sessions have been specifically tailored to paediatric and adult endocrinologists, across the endocrine discipline. These include Plenaries, Symposia, Awards, Meet the Experts, and Oral and Rapid Communications (please see the programme here).

Jérôme Bertherat, President of the European Society of Endocrinology commented: “We wanted to organise this Joint Congress because hormones matter throughout the lifetime, from birth to senescence. This combined activity is important not only for endocrine research and healthcare but also for Policy and Advocacy, and the ongoing concerns we have in respect of endocrine disruptors. When you come to a meeting you come for science, networking and to make new friends and that will be one of the best outcomes of this meeting.”

Anita Hokken-Koelega President of the European Society for Paediatric Endocrinology added: “We hope this Joint Congress provides inspiration for adult and paediatric endocrinologists to work more closely together, not only for collaborative research but also for the transitional care for our patients. We are much stronger when our two societies combine our efforts, which has already been demonstrated through the impact of projects we have been working on together over the last few years.”

The winner of the new Joint Award of ESPE and ESE – Endocrinology Across the Life Course Award – will be announced in the Opening Ceremony on Saturday 10 May at 17:15 CEST and the winner will present their lecture. This will be followed by the ESE Geoffrey Harris Award lecture and the ESPE Andrea Prader Award lectures (and announcement of the winners).

In addition there are two other Joint Awards being announced during the Congress - the Henning Anderson Awards (two awards for the most highly rated clinical, basic and translational abstracts submitted to the Joint Congress) on Sunday 11 May at 08:30 CEST and the new People’s Choice Awards which will be awarded to the best clinical, basic and translational abstract voted by delegates and the Joint Programme Organising Committee and announced during the Closing Ceremony on Tuesday 13 May at 17:40 CEST along with the winners of the ESPE Undergraduate Awards, ESE Young Investigator Awards and Poster Awards
