Los Angeles, CA – May 29, 2025 - The Terasaki Institute for Biomedical Innovation (TIBI) and California State University, Northridge (CSUN) are proud to announce the launch of a new collaboration initiative that brings advanced hands-on laboratory experience to CSUN Biology graduate students as part of their curriculum.

This exciting partnership represents the natural evolution of a growing relationship between the two institutions, one that began with shared research resources, expanded into the TIBI Summer Junior Internship Program for CSUN undergraduates, and has now culminated in an immersive research experience for CSUN master’s students.

Participating students will have the opportunity to work side-by-side with leading scientists at TIBI, contributing to projects in areas such as, biomaterials, tissue engineering, regenerative medicine, nanomedicine, immunology, organs-on- a-chip, biosensing, and personalized therapeutics.

“This collaboration is a powerful example of what happens when institutions come together with a shared vision,” said Dr. Mariano Loza Coll, Associate Professor of Biology at CSUN. “Our students are not only gaining access to cutting-edge technology and research at TIBI—they’re becoming part of a collaborative scientific community making a real-world impact.”

The partnership was driven by the leadership and dedication of Prof. Cindy Malone and Prof. Mariano Loza Coll from CSUN, along with Dr. Johnson V. John and Dr. Vadim Jucaud from TIBI, who have all worked tirelessly to develop a roadmap that is both academically rigorous and deeply meaningful for students.

“We’re proud to deepen our collaboration with CSUN through this partnership-shared initiative,” said Dr. Ali Khademhosseini, CEO of the Terasaki Institute. “We’re helping shape the future of biomedical discovery by providing the next generation of scientists with meaningful, hands-on research experiences.”

This initiative marks an important milestone in the mission of both institutions, which is to promote equitable access to scientific research and education while training the next generation of changemakers in biomedical innovation.
