Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging announces 2025 fellows

NEW ORLEANS (June 23, 2025)The Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI) recognized seven new Fellows today during a plenary session at the society’s 2025 Annual Meeting, held June 21-24. The SNMMI Fellowship was established in 2016 to recognize distinguished service to the society as well as exceptional achievement in the field of nuclear medicine and molecular imaging. It is among the most prestigious formal recognitions available to long-time SNMMI members.

Members honored as SNMMI Fellows at the meeting include:

  • Jon A. Baldwin, DO, MBS. Baldwinis an associate professor of radiology, associate program director of nuclear medicine residency, and medical director of the Nuclear Medicine & Molecular Imaging Sciences Program at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He currently serves on the SNMMI Board of Directors.
     
  • Roy W. Brown, BS, MBA. Brown is vice president of government affairs and strategic alliances at Curium Pharmaceuticals. He serves on the SNMMI Committee on Radiopharmaceuticals and is Curium’s representative to the SNMMI Value Initiative. He has also served on SNMMI’s Government Relations Committee, Industry Forum Leaders Group, and Medical Radionuclide Supply Task Force. He served on the board of the Education and Research Foundation for Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging for several years.
     
  • Jan Grimm, MD, PhD. Grimmis an attending physician, professor of radiology, and member of the Molecular Pharmacology Program in Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York. He is also a professor of pharmacology at Weill Cornell Medical College, also in New York. Grimm is an associate editor for The Journal of Nuclear Medicine.
     
  • Steven H. Liang, PhD. Liangis an associate professor in the Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences and serves as SOM endowed director of the Radiochemistry, Cyclotron Facility and Radiopharmacy Center for System Imaging at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia. He also heads the Emory Positron Emission Tomography Center. Liang is a past president of SNMMI’s Radiopharmaceutical Sciences Council and has also served on the Awards, In-Training, and Scientific Program committees.
     
  • Osama R. Mawlawi, PhD. Mawlawiis a tenured professor of imaging physics, section chief of nuclear medicine physics, and deputy chair of the department of imaging physics at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. At SNMMI, Mawlawi has served as the president of the Physics, Instrumentation and Data Sciences (PIDS) Council and currently serves on the Ethics, Workforce Pipeline, Scientific Program, Awards, and CTN Research committees and on the Dosimetry Task Force.
     
  • Jonathan McConathy, MD, PhD. McConathy is a nuclear medicine physician and diagnostic radiologist who serves as the director of the Division of Molecular Imaging and Therapeutics at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He has been involved extensively with SNMMI, serving as co-chair of the Clinical Trials Network (CTN) and on its Research and Operations committees. He currently serves on the Therapy Strategic Planning Task Force, the Theranostic Leadership & Operations Group, the Committee on Outreach, and the SNMMI Brain Imaging Outreach Group. His past roles include president of SNMMI’s Center for Molecular Imaging Innovation and Translation and associate editor for The Journal of Nuclear Medicine.
     
  • Machaba Michael Sathekge, MD, PhD. Sathekgeis professor and head of the Department of Nuclear Medicine at the University of Pretoria and Steve Biko Academic Hospital in Pretoria, South Africa. He also heads the South African Nuclear Medicine Research Infrastructure (NuMeRI). He is an international associate editor for The Journal of Nuclear Medicine.
     

Selection of SNMMI Fellows is based on documented excellence of volunteer service to the society and excellence in at least one of the additional three areas: scientific discovery and innovation, educational efforts, or clinical practice. SNMMI Fellowship is recognized with the designation FSNMMI.
