Introducing LabMed Discovery: A global platform for innovation in laboratory medicine

Shanghai Jiao Tong University Journal Center

In this editorial, Professor Khosrow Adeli, Co-Editor-in-Chief, announces the official launch of LabMed Discovery (LMD), a new open-access, peer-reviewed journal dedicated to laboratory medicine, diagnostic innovation, and translational research. Sponsored by Ruijin Hospital and Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, LMD aims to become a leading international journal connecting research, technology, and clinical application in the field of laboratory diagnostics.

1. Mission and Vision:

LMD is launched in response to the growing need for a high-quality, English-language journal in China that comprehensively addresses the rapidly evolving field of laboratory medicine. It aims to:

• Promote international scholarly exchange

• Highlight interdisciplinary approaches

• Advance precision diagnostics and medical technology

The journal will cover intersections with various disciplines like oncology, cardiology, microbiology, immunology, and precision medicine.

2. Scope and Content:

LMD will publish a variety of content, including:

• Original research articles

• Prospective reviews

• Translational and interdisciplinary studies

The editorial emphasizes the journal’s commitment to open access, ensuring that cutting-edge research is freely available to the global scientific community. This model promotes knowledge sharing and collaborative progress, especially in emerging fields such as:

• Molecular diagnostics

• Lab-on-a-chip technologies

• Digital pathology

• Point-of-care testing

• Proteomics and metabolomics

• Big data and bioinformatics in diagnostics

3. Strategic Importance:

The journal intends to bridge the gap between laboratory science and clinical application, serving as a crucial platform for translating laboratory innovations into improvements in patient care. It encourages submissions that support innovation, diagnostic accuracy, standardization of lab practices, and integration of AI and next-generation sequencing into clinical workflows.

4. Future Directions:

The editorial concludes by recognizing the expanding role of laboratory medicine in global healthcare, particularly with the integration of personalized and preventive medicine. As healthcare systems worldwide evolve, LabMed Discovery positions itself at the forefront of this transformation by providing a space for interdisciplinary collaboration and visionary thought leadership.

Professor Adeli invites clinicians, researchers, and industry experts to contribute to LMD and shape the future of laboratory science together.
