The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) is pleased to announce its partnership with the China Civil Engineering Society (CCES) and Tsinghua University (THU) to publish Civil Engineering Sciences as a Science Partner Journal.
Civil Engineering Sciences aims to publish interdisciplinary, cutting-edge works on discoveries, innovations, and breakthroughs in the field of civil engineering. With its unique perspective, the journal seeks to promote future reform and innovation in civil engineering science and technology. Professors Dongping Fang of Tsinghua University and Masayoshi Nakashima of Kyoto University will serve as Editors-in-Chief.
“Civil Engineering Sciences is born from a pivotal moment in our discipline—where fundamental science and engineering innovation converge to redefine what’s possible," said Professor Dongping Fang, Co-Editor-in-Chief of Civil Engineering Sciences. "This journal fills a unique niche: it spotlights (1) scientific discoveries sparked by grand challenges in civil engineering—from climate-resilient infrastructure to megaproject sustainability, and (2) transformative technologies emerging from breakthroughs in cross-disciplinary science. By bridging these dual pathways, we aim to accelerate the reinvention of civil engineering itself. Jointly established by the China Civil Engineering Society and Tsinghua University, and distributed by the AAAS and Tsinghua Press, we will cultivate a rigorous, forward-thinking platform where theory meets practice, and where today’s research shapes tomorrow’s built environment. Our international Editorial Board is committed to setting a new standard for high-impact science that drives both scholarly excellence and real-world progress."
The journal is currently accepting submissions through Editorial Manager. As a member of the Science Partner Journal program, Civil Engineering Sciences will publish on a continuous basis under a Creative Commons Attribution License (CC BY). As an Open Access title, all articles are available to read on the journal website.
“We are very excited to partner with CCES and Tsinghua University on the newest Science Partner Journal. Civil Engineering Sciences will be an important title in the program as we continue to expand upon our goal of partnering with associations that share the AAAS vision of publishing high quality research,” said Bill Moran, Publisher of the Science family of journals at AAAS. "CCES represents the top of the field in practitioners and research, and we are very happy to have them join the list of our prestigious partner associations. With their guidance and the editorial oversight of professors Dongping Fang and Masayoshi Nakashima, we expect this journal to reach great heights and be an important addition to the Science Partner Journal program."
About Science Partner Journals
Titles participating in the Science Partner Journal program are added on a regular basis and participation in the program is kept to English-language publications. AAAS is actively seeking new partners across scientific disciplines. Organizations participating in the Science Partner Journal program will be editorially independent and responsible for the content published in each journal. Partner organizations are responsible for establishing editorial boards committed to best practices in peer review and author service. For more information about the Science Partner Journal program, please visit the Science Partner Journal homepage at spj.science.org. For questions regarding the program and inquiries about the application process for becoming a partner organization, contact spj@aaas.org.
About the China Civil Engineering Society (CCES)
The China Civil Engineering Society (CCES) is an academic society for civil engineering scientists and technicians across China, supervised by the China Association for Science and Technology. Founded in 1912 as the Chinese Institution of Engineers, it is one of the earliest engineering academic societies established in China. The society currently has more than 50,000 individual members across 26 specialized committees. CCES is part of seven international academic organizations and has cooperated with academic groups in more than 10 countries/regions. The society established the China Civil Engineering Zhan Tianyou Award (Zhan Tianyou Award), named for its founder, in 1999 to recognize and reward civil engineering construction projects that have made outstanding achievements in scientific and technological innovation and the application of new technologies.
