This study was led by Dr. Xiujing Guo and Dr. Anqi Xiong from the Department of Nursing, West China Second University Hospital, Sichuan University, Chengdu, Sichuan, China. Using the bibliometric visualization software CiteSpace, the research team conducted a systematic analysis of global literature on ovarian cancer care, drawing from 1,261 publications indexed in the Web of Science Core Collection between 2000 and 2023.

By identifying key clusters such as quality of life, surgery, paclitaxel, nurses’ health, and prophylactic oophorectomy, the study reveals an increasing international focus on patient-centered and multidisciplinary care strategies for ovarian cancer patients.

We found that although the overall volume of research is growing, international collaboration remains relatively limited,” says Dr. Xiong. The United States leads in publication output, with Harvard University standing out as the most prolific institution. Gynecologic Oncology was identified as the leading journal in the field based on the number of published articles.

One of the most noteworthy findings is the expanding contribution of the nursing discipline to ovarian cancer care. “Nursing research is playing an increasingly vital role, particularly in areas such as symptom management, psychosocial support, and survivorship,” Dr. Guo explains. “Our findings point to the growing recognition of holistic care models and the value of interdisciplinary approaches in improving outcomes for women with ovarian cancer.”

The researchers emphasize the need for future studies to further investigate psychological well-being and evaluate the impact of integrated care models. “Understanding the trajectory of research topics and collaboration networks helps shape more effective and inclusive cancer care strategies,” Dr. Guo notes.

This bibliometric review not only serves as a vital resource for clinicians, researchers, and policymakers but also provides a roadmap for fostering international collaboration and promoting innovation in ovarian cancer care.
