DARIEN, IL – The American Academy of Sleep Medicine is accepting abstracts and innovation award entries as part of Sleep Medicine Disruptors 2025, which will be held in-person in Austin, Texas, and livestreamed Friday and Saturday, Nov. 14-15.

This biennial event attracts clinicians, scientists, technology developers, start-up founders, venture capitalists, and other health care innovators. Speakers will explore technology innovation, artificial intelligence, and other disruptions that are poised to change the landscape of sleep health, patient care, and health care delivery. An exhibit hall will also feature products and services from leading companies in the industry.

"We are entering a new era in sleep medicine — one where innovation is not just incremental, but transformative," said Azizi Seixas, chair of Sleep Medicine Disruptors 2025 and founding director of The Media and Innovation Lab at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, where he is also interim inaugural chair of the department of informatics and health data science. "Wearable technology, artificial intelligence, big data, and digital biomarkers are converging to unlock unprecedented possibilities for how we detect, prevent, and treat sleep disorders. But in a world being disrupted at lightning speed, clinicians, scientists, and educators must operate like jazz musicians — listening, adapting, and improvising to find the right chord before the innovation moves on. Those who fail to adapt risk being left behind.”

Dr. Robert Pearl, former CEO of The Permanente Medical Group (Kaiser Permanente), will present the keynote address, “The Future of Health Care,” on Friday, Nov. 14. He is the author of “ChatGPT, MD: How AI-Empowered Patients & Doctors Can Take Back Control of American Medicine.”

“Our goal is to equip every participant with the mindset and tools to improvise effectively — transforming disruption into opportunity and innovation into impact for patients worldwide," said Seixas, who has a doctorate in clinical psychology research.

Abstract Submissions

The AASM invites the submission of abstracts that explore novel solutions, interventions, approaches, and paradigms related to topics such as sleep health monitoring, consumer sleep technology, sleep disorders screening, diagnosis and treatment, artificial intelligence and machine learning, health care delivery, and practice models. Accepted abstracts will be scheduled for poster presentation, and a select number of abstract authors will be invited to give an in-person oral presentation during the program. Accepted abstracts will be published in an online supplement of the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine. Abstracts must be submitted by Monday, Sept. 8.

Award Entries

The AASM is accepting submissions for the inaugural Sleep Medicine Disruptors Innovation Award, which recognizes innovative products, features, and services that support sleep health and advance the practice of sleep medicine. Entries in this new award program will be evaluated by a panel of sleep medicine professionals, who will select the finalists that will be invited to give a pitch presentation at Sleep Medicine Disruptors 2025. Eligible entries include new features for existing products, new products that have been recently launched, emerging products that have not yet reached the market, and pre-market concepts and prototypes. Entries must be submitted by Monday, Sept. 8.

Sleep Medicine Disruptors will be held at the Austin Marriott Downtown at 304 E. Cesar Chavez St.  Registration information is available at aasm.org/disruptors
