In an era marked by increasing assaults on science and public health, CDC must be empowered to rise above politics and remain focused on their core purpose: safeguarding and improving the health of communities. While there may be differing perspectives on how best to achieve this goal, it is clear that qualified, steady leadership is indispensable to guiding the path forward. We urge the Administration and Senate leadership to move swiftly to appoint a highly qualified leader who can steer the CDC through today’s urgent challenges and prepare for those to come, including any future pandemics.
