Artificial intelligence is reshaping industries and societies at breathtaking speed. But alongside these opportunities comes a pressing challenge: cyberattacks are growing more frequent, sophisticated, and costly. Firms today face not only the threat of direct financial losses but also cascading damage through reputational harm and vulnerabilities across interconnected systems. How can businesses and regulators effectively navigate these risks in the AI era?

To address this urgent issue, China Finance Review International (CFRI) is launching a special issue on “Cyber Risks in the Era of AI”, guest edited by Dr. Kwangmin Jung of Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH), Korea, and Dr. Linfeng Zhang of The Ohio State University, United States. This special issue aims to showcase cutting-edge research on assessing, pricing, and managing cyber risks in AI-driven environments.

The call for papers invites submissions on a wide array of topics including, but not limited to:

  • Approaches to modelling and strategic management of cyber risks
  • Financial innovations to transfer cyber risks (e.g., cyber insurance or cyber catastrophe bonds)
  • Cyber risk spillovers in interconnected financial institutions
  • The pricing of cyber risks in capital markets
  • Cyber risk exposure and corporate governance mechanisms
  • Cyber risks and their impacts on the cost of capital
  • Asset allocation and portfolio management in the presence of cyber risks
  • AI-driven cyber threats and their impacts on financial market stability
  • Cybersecurity disclosures and financial management
  • Cyber risk assessment for financial institutions using AI techniques
  • The role of central banks and financial regulators in cyber risk management
  • Cross-border implications of cyber risks and international strategies for cyber risk management
  • Cyber risk perception and decision-making under uncertainty
  • AI-driven data collection and privacy risks in financial services

The guest editors bring deep expertise in risk management and actuarial science. Dr. Jung’s research focuses on the intersection of actuarial science, risk management and insurance, particularly studying data science and information technology in insurance, emerging risk analysis (e.g., cyber risk, climate change risk) and extreme risk modeling, with publications in leading journals such as  the risk management and insurance / actuarial science field, including Journal of Risk and Insurance, Insurance: Mathematics and Economics and North American Actuarial Journal. He was the winner of the AFIR-ERM best research paper prize of the IAA in 2019. Dr. Zhang’s research explores cyber risk, pandemic risk, and privacy risk, with publications in leading journals such as The Geneva Papers on Risk and Insurance, IEEE Transactions on Emerging Topics in Computing, and the Connecticut Insurance Law Journal.

Manuscripts should be submitted through ScholarOne Manuscripts, with authors selecting “Cyber Risks in the Era of AI” as the target special issue. Submissions must follow the journal’s author guidelines and should not be under consideration elsewhere while under review. The submission portal opens on September 15, 2025, and the deadline for submissions is May 31, 2026. For further inquiries, please contact Dr. Kwangmin Jung (kwjung@postech.ac.kr), Dr. Linfeng Zhang (zhang.14673@osu.edu) or CFRI Editorial Office (cfr@sjtu.edu.cn).
