Keith Renshaw, Senior Associate Provost for Undergraduate Education, Office of the Provost, received funding for: “VISR 3.0: Learning Management System Development and Implementation.”

This project aims to train employees within a wide variety of agencies in a) identifying service members, veterans, and family members; b) screening for suicide risk; and c) providing appropriate referrals and/or interventions as needed.

VISR was first piloted in 2020, with good success.

From 2022-2023, Renshaw led a follow-up project dubbed “VISR 2.0” focused on evaluating VISR’s broader impact and identifying ways to increase the scale of the program. Results of VISR 2.0 indicated that making all training components of VISR accessible online, with the capacity to award continuing education credits, would be critical in expanding the scalability of the program.

In the VISR 3.0 project, George Mason staff will convert existing training elements to a customized set of trainings that are consistent with each other. Moreover, researchers will integrate these trainings into a single learning management system (Canvas Catalog) that is accessible by anyone from any agency.

This Learning Management System will enable delivery of all trainings, as well as tracking of training completion.

Finally, participants also will be able to apply for professional continuing education credits through George Mason as they complete trainings.

Renshaw received $50,023 from the Virginia Department of Veterans Services for this award. Funding began in July 2025 and will end in late June 2026.
