European Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation

Barcelona, 6 October 2025 – European Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (EBMT) is proud to announce its certification under ISO/IEC 27001:2022, the latest and most internationally recognised standard for Information Security Management Systems (ISMS).

This achievement highlights EBMT’s commitment to protecting sensitive information, managing risks effectively, and ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of its data. The certification applies across EBMT’s ecosystem—including the EBMT Registry, the only data source of its kind in Europe—together with its IT infrastructure and operational processes.

As a leading medical and scientific organisation dedicated to cellular and stem cell-based therapies, EBMT manages a unique patient registry that provides critical data to healthcare professionals worldwide. This registry supports studies, identifies emerging epidemiological trends, and drives research that saves and improves the lives of patients with blood-related disorders.

“Safeguarding sensitive patient and research data is fundamental to our mission,” said Anna Sureda, EBMT President. “Achieving ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certification reinforces the trust our members, partners, and patients place in us.”

The ISO/IEC 27001:2022 standard provides a globally recognised framework for managing information security through comprehensive policies, processes, and controls. By aligning with this framework, EBMT ensures that all entrusted data is protected according to the highest international standards.

EBMT also recognises the dedication of its teams in reaching this milestone. “This certification reflects not only our systems, but also the collective effort of our staff, who work tirelessly to uphold excellence in data protection and operational integrity,” added Iris Bargalló Arraut, Data Protection Officer & Compliance Manager.

With this achievement, EBMT strengthens its position as a trusted partner in the digital landscape of healthcare research, ensuring data security and building confidence among its global network of members, partners, and stakeholders.
