Kraig S. de Lanzac, M.D., MBA, FASA, elected first vice president of the American Society of Anesthesiologists

SAN ANTONIO — Kraig S. de Lanzac, M.D., MBA, FASA, was elected first vice president of the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA), the nation’s largest organization of anesthesiologists, on October 15. Dr. de Lanzac was elected by the ASA House of Delegates at the ANESTHESIOLOGY® 2025 annual meeting in San Antonio and will serve for one year.

Dr. de Lanzac is director of clinical anesthesia at Tulane Lakeside Hospital and vice chair and associate professor of anesthesiology at Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans.

I am committed to advocating for our members on the critical issues impacting our specialty and working on the Society’s efforts to preserve anesthesiologist-led care,” said Dr. de Lanzac. “I look forward to helping our members thrive at every stage of their careers as ASA continues to provide support and resources designed to help our members learn, grow and lead.”

As first vice president, Dr. de Lanzac will serve as a member of ASA’s Executive Committee, which consists of the president, president-elect, first vice president and immediate past president. The Executive Committee expedites, executes and administers the policies adopted by the ASA House of Delegates and ASA Board of Directors.

Dr. de Lanzac has served ASA in numerous roles. He most recently served on ASA’s Administrative Council as secretary and assistant secretary. He is chair of ASA’s Section on Administration, Section on Board Administrative Affairs and Committee on Membership. Additionally, Dr. de Lanzac is past chair of the ASA Committee on Communications and the Committee on Anesthesia Care Team. Some of his current committee memberships include ASA’s Committee on Informatics and Information Technologies and the Committee on Governance Effectiveness and Efficiencies. In 2017, ASA presented Dr. de Lanzac with the Bertram W. Coffer, M.D., Excellence in Government Award, given in recognition of his exemplary contributions to the specialty of anesthesiology, its practitioners and patients.

In addition to his commitments to ASA, Dr. de Lanzac served as president of the Louisiana Society of Anesthesiologists (LSA) and is a member of LSA’s Executive Committee and Annual Meeting Committee. He is also the founding partner and a former member of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medical Consultants, LLC, Slidell, Louisiana.

Dr. de Lanzac received his medical degree from Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans, where he also completed his residency in anesthesiology. He is certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology.

Dr. de Lanzac lives in Metairie, Louisiana, with his wife Rhen. They have two adult children: Mallory, a registered nurse, and Braden, a second-year medical student.
