Associate Professor Shefaly Shorey of the Alice Lee Centre for Nursing Studies at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore (NUS Medicine), will assume the position of Editor-in-Chief of Midwifery, effective from 1 January 2026. Assoc Prof Shorey is also the Vice-Dean of Administration at NUS Medicine, and the Director at Yeo Boon Khim Mind Science Centre, a research centre of NUS and the National University Health System (NUHS).
Published since 1985, Midwifery is a leading international journal in midwifery and maternal health, publishing the latest research in care during pregnancy, labour, birth, and the postnatal period. The journal aims to provide midwives and maternity care providers with the adequate skills, knowledge, and attitude to enhance maternal and infant care practices.

Assoc Prof Shorey is a leading researcher in family and women’s health. Her research programmes focus on developing psychosocial and educational interventions for diverse populations. These range from promoting positive parenting habits across the perinatal period and enhancing care and support for parents utilising digital health technologies, to engaging fathers and improving family health and well-being on a community level. She is an expert in qualitative research, with over 270 peer-reviewed publications in high-impact journals. In 2022, she was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship; in 2024 and 2025, she was inducted as a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing and the Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, in recognition of her outstanding contributions to healthcare. She has also been listed on Stanford’s World’s Top 2% Most-Cited Scientists since 2021.
