(Toronto and Oslo, January 14, 2026)  JMIR Publications, a leading open-access digital health research publisher, and Sikt (Norwegian Agency for Shared Services in Education and Research) are pleased to announce a new pilot partnership that brings JMIR’s Flat-Fee Unlimited Open Access Publishing model to Norway. University College of Molde (Høgskolen i Molde) is the first institution to join the trial program.

“Our partnership with Sikt is further progress in our mission to advance open science and empower researchers globally,” said Dennis O’Brien, VP Communications and Partnerships at JMIR Publications. “The University College of Molde is joining a growing list of global research institutions supporting independent open access publishing via our  Institutional Publishing Fee Program. We're proud to have them as our initial partner in Norway. ”

This agreement implements JMIR’s Institutional Publishing Fee, providing full waivers of Article Processing Fees (APF) for corresponding authors affiliated with participating institutions. The pilot partnership will operate from January 1, 2026 to December 31, 2026. By replacing individual APF payments with a single Institutional Partnership Fee (IPF), the agreement eliminates the financial and administrative burden on both researchers and librarians, allowing for a more streamlined publishing process.

“This collaboration with JMIR Publications supports our mission that Norwegian institutions, regardless of size, are able to grow the reach and impact of their valuable research through publishing agreements,” said Nils Andenæs, Senior Advisor for Sikt. “Partnering with leading independent open access publishers like JMIR is important to build an open science future where researchers can choose the best journal for their research.”
