ENGINEERING Energy, formerly known as Frontiers in Energy, is a peer-reviewed English academic journal dedicated to energy research. Jointly sponsored by Higher Education Press, the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and co-published by Higher Education Press and Springer Nature, the journal was launched in 2007 and is the energy-focused sub-journal within the journal cluster of the flagship journal Engineering of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. It focuses on frontier, innovative, and interdisciplinary research in energy science and technology, aiming to build a high-level international academic exchange platform for global researchers, engineers, and policymakers to share high-quality original findings.
The Editors-in-Chief are Academician Zhen Huang, Academician Shouwei Zhou, Academician Yinao Su, and Academician Suping Peng of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. The Deputy Editors-in-Chief are Academician Jiujun Zhang (Foreign Member of CAE; Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and the Canadian Academy of Engineering), Professor Radenka Maric (President, University of Connecticut, USA), and Professor Nicolas Alonso-Vante and Professor Yonglin Ju of Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
The journal is indexed in SCI Expanded (SCIE), EI Compendex, Scopus, CAS, INSPEC, Google Scholar, CSCD, China Science and Technology Core Journals, and other major international and domestic databases. The journal’s 2024 Impact Factor is 6.2 (JCR Q2); the real-time Impact Factor for 2025 is 8.1; and the journal is ranked T2 in the 2026 Xinrui Journal Ranking.
The scope of the journal includes energy conversion and utilization; renewable energy; energy storage; hydrogen and fuel cells; carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS); advanced nuclear technology; smart grids and microgrids; power cells and electric vehicles; new energy systems; energy and the environment. Article types include original research articles, reviews, mini-reviews, perspectives, viewpoints, highlights, comments, and editorials.
Application Eligibility
To further enhance the academic impact of the journal, ENGINEERING Energy is now recruiting members for the 3rd Young Editorial Board worldwide. The eligibility criteria are as follows:
- Aged 40 or below (as of 2026)
- Research aligned with the journal’s scope is required
- A solid academic research foundation and high-level research achievements
- Willing to devote time to supporting the journal’s development
- No record of academic misconduct
Duties
- Submitting high-quality manuscripts to ENGINEERING Energy
- Providing professional peer-review reports
- Promoting ENGINEERING Energy regionally and internationally through academic activities and professional networks
- Participating in academic activities organized by ENGINEERING Energy
