BIOCHAR, an international academic journal dedicated to biochar science and technology, has achieved a 2025 Impact Factor of 15.1, according to the 2026 Journal Citation Reports released by Clarivate on June 17.
The new result marks another major milestone for the journal. BIOCHAR has ranked No. 1 worldwide in Soil Science for five consecutive years, highlighting its sustained leadership in a field closely linked to sustainable agriculture, soil health, carbon management and environmental protection.
In addition to its top position in Soil Science, BIOCHAR ranked 11th among 395 journals in Environmental Sciences and remained firmly in the Q1 quartile. These results demonstrate the journal’s strong interdisciplinary impact across soil science, environmental science, carbon research and green technology.
Launched to advance research on biochar and related carbon materials, BIOCHAR publishes studies on biomass conversion, carbon sequestration, pollutant remediation, soil improvement and climate relevant solutions. The latest Journal Citation Reports results further confirm BIOCHAR’s position at the forefront of international environmental and soil science research.
