(Toronto, June 25, 2026) JMIR Publications invites submissions on the 2026 Ebola Disease Public Health Emergency of International Concern in its open access journal JMIR Public Health and Surveillance. The premier, peer-reviewed journal is indexed in Clarivate (SCIE, SSCI etc), PubMed, PMC, MEDLINE, Scopus, DOAJ, and CABI.
On May 17, 2026, the World Health Organization (WHO) issued a determination of a public health emergency of international concern for the epidemic of Ebola disease in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda [1]. The outbreak poses international risk due to population mobility and ongoing uncertainty about the epidemiologic conditions in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The public health response requires international coordination of surveillance, prevention, and control strategies.
To support the developing emergency response, rapid communication of public health and research findings is critical. JMIR Public Health and Surveillance is facilitating this emergency response by implementing priority reviews and decision-making procedures for papers submitted to this specific call. Submissions are invited on topics focusing on:
-
The current Ebola disease epidemic described in the WHO declaration, and
-
The Democratic Republic of the Congo or Uganda
Submissions to this call for papers may include, but are not limited to the following topics:
-
Emergency operations and response
-
Risk communication and community engagement
-
Surveillance and epidemiology, including rapid surveillance reports
-
Optimization of health care infrastructure and infection control
-
Medical countermeasure research
-
Screening programs
