Zeng Studying Secure ISAC In NextG Through Resource Grid Obfuscation

Kai Zeng, Professor, Electrical and Computer Engineering, College of Engineering and Computing (CEC), is studying integrated sensing and communication.

Zeng’s research team will build an analytical model of the ISAC system under unauthorized passive sensing attacks.

The team will analyze the effectiveness of a resource grid obfuscation defense mechanism against unauthorized passive sensing.

The team will also conduct simulations of the proposed defense mechanism and implement the mechanism on a software-defined radio testbed and a 5G O-RAN testbed.

Zeng received $25,000 from Virginia Tech on a subaward from the National Science Foundation for this project. Funding began in June 2026 and will end in late May 2027.
