According to a Perspective, research into the prospect of stratospheric aerosol geoengineering will require identifying and prioritizing critical uncertainties and is likely to be primarily model-based in the short term, and any possible future field experimentation is expected to be small-scale, given that large-scale experiments are appropriate only after global consensus to deploy stratospheric aerosols, according to the authors.
