image: Infection of the uterus by pathogenic bacteria, such as E. coli, has been associated with adverse pregnancy outcomes. A new study suggests that a cervical stitch using a braided suture material may raise the risk of preterm birth and intrauterine death by disrupting the vaginal microbiome.
