How Language Helps People Cope With Negative Experiences

image: A new study by Ariana Orvell et al. demonstrates how people use the word 'you' in a general sense to distance themselves psychologically -- and extract meaning -- from negative experiences. This infographic captures the various ways people may use 'you.' This material relates to a paper that appeared in the 24 March 2017, issue of Science, published by AAAS. The paper, by A. Orvell at University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Mich., and colleagues was titled, 'How 'you' makes meaning.' view more
