科研人员分析了1950年到2018年之间212,805名美国竞选职位的政治候选人的城市、县与州竞选数据，结果发现在各级政府，以很小的差距赢得或者输掉竞选的男性和女性都很可能再次参选；这组作者说，这些发现提示，性别并没有影响竞选失败之后的政治雄心。
