一项研究提出,出现在再生林年龄小于140年的森林的全球大约一半的碳吸收全部是由于过去的扰动造成的平均树龄的变化,而再生林的吸收集中在温带而非热带森林;这组作者进一步估计,如果近来的森林流失和重建速率持续下去,森林可能仅仅因为树龄的变化而积累另外69皮克碳。
