科研人员评估了中国的煤炭-生物能气化系统与碳捕获与储存联合（CBECCS）的属性，它使用农作物残骸作为生物质输入，结果发现大于35%的农作物残余率可能实现净零生命周期温室气体排放发电，成本大约是碳价格每吨52美元下的每千瓦时9.2美分；这些发现提示CBECCS系统为发电提供了一个负碳替代选项，而且还有助于减少空气污染。
