Vomocytosis of Live Pathogens from Macrophages is Regulated by the Atypical MAP Kinase ERK5

video: This movie shows the process of vomocytosis. A fungal cell (Cryptococcus neoformans) has been engulfed by a macrophage (a type of white blood cell); at the start of the movie the fungal cell is highlighted in green. After several hours within the host cell, it is suddenly released via the process known as vomocytosis, just before the end of the movie. This material relates to a paper that appeared in the August 16, issue of Science Advances, published by AAAS. The paper, by A.S. Gilbert at University of Birmingham in Birmingham, UK, and colleagues was titled, "The evolutionary basis of premature migration in Pacific salmon highlights the utility of genomics for informing conservation." view more
