Imaging Tool Reveals Brain Inflammation in Early-Stage Multiple Sclerosis (2 of 2)

image: Inflamed vessels and perivascular cuffs in brains of multiple sclerosis (MS) patients. MMPi-PET signal and contrast enhancement in the Gd-T1-MRI scan in the right hemisphere of patient #7 representing an acute attack of relapsing-remitting MS. Overlay of Gd-T1-MRI and 18F-MMPiPET (PET-MRI) is included. This material relates to a paper that appeared in the Nov. 9, 2016, issue of Science Translational Medicine, published by AAAS. The paper, by H. Gerwien at University of Münster in Münster, Germany, and colleagues was titled, "Imaging matrix metalloproteinase activity in multiple sclerosis as a specific marker of leukocyte penetration of the blood-brain barrier." view more
