X-Ray Laser Pulses Reveal Key Parasite Enzyme (10 of 15)

image: Single crystal Trypanosoma brucei cathepsin B diffraction pattern captured using a 40 femtosecond pulse from the LCLS X-ray free-electron laser. A rendering of the molecular structure of the enzyme is overlaid, with new structural features obtained by this study shown in green. This image relates to a paper that appeared in the Nov. 29, 2012, issue of Science Express, published by AAAS. The paper, by Lars Redecke at the University of Hamburg in Hamburg, Germany, and colleagues was titled, "Natively Inhibited Trypanosoma brucei Cathepsin B Structure Determined Using an X-ray Laser." view more
