Sulfur Dioxide Emissions over the US from Oct. Kliuchevskoi, Russia, Volcano Eruption

image: The image shows elevated levels of sulfur dioxide, or SO2, gas over the Eastern United States on Oct. 23, 2013. These low SO2 gas levels originated from an eruption of Kliuchevskoi volcano (Kamchatka, Eastern Russia), October 15-20. The volcano emitted SO2 into the jet stream winds in the upper troposphere, which transported the gas rapidly east over the United States. view more
