Pinpointing How Rituximab Stops Leaky Kidneys (2 of 2)

image: Patients were enrolled in the pre-transplant clinic. Blood collected prior to transplant was utilized at the bench to culture normal human podocytes in the presence or absence of rituximab and to study how they function. At time of transplant, kidney biopsies were obtained immediately before and after transplant, and the regulation of SMPDL-3b determined in relation to the clinical recurrence of FSGS. This image relates to a paper that appeared in the June 1, 2011, issue of Science Translational Medicine, published by AAAS. The paper, by Dr. Alessia Fornoni of the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine in Miami and colleagues, was titled, "Rituximab Targets Podocytes in Recurrent Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis." view more
