'Writing' Objects in a Granular Gel Paves Way for 3-D Printing With Soft Materials (5 of 5)

image: The example of Russian dolls illustrates the unique capabilities of the technique. Writing in the granular gel medium allows the exquisitely controlled creation of detailed surfaces with both smooth curves and sharp corners. The stability and precision provided by the granular gel allow large delicate structures to be assembled in seemingly impossible configurations. This material relates to a paper that appeared in the Sept. 25, 2015, issue of Science, published by AAAS. The paper, by T. Bhattacharjee at University of Florida in Gainesville, FL, and colleagues was titled, "Writing in the granular gel medium." view more
