Wiley-Blackwell, the scientific, technical, medical, and scholarly (STMS) business of global publisher John Wiley & Sons, Inc., today announced a continued increase in the number and proportion of its journal titles with an impact factor, with 1,087 titles (73%) included in the Thomson ISI® 2010 Journal Citation Reports (JCR).
This is an increase of 7% from the 2009 JCR and includes 58 titles which have received their first impact factor. Anatomical Sciences Education secured a stunning debut as the number 1 ranked journal in Education, Scientific Disciplines. The portfolio includes 317 top ten rankings.

Wiley-Blackwell has been making strong advances within both Science and Social Science categories.
The Wiley-Blackwell published journal with the highest impact factor in the Science JCR is once again the top-ranked CA-A Cancer Journal for Clinicians at 94.262 - the highest impact factor of all titles.
In the Social Science JCR, Wiley-Blackwell published 13% of the journals and 14% of the articles, receiving an impressive 16% of the citations. Wiley-Blackwell has the highest number of JCR indexed social science publications of any academic publisher. The highest Social Science JCR impact factor for a Wiley-Blackwell journal is the number 1 ranked Monographs of the Society for Research in Child Development with an impact factor of 7.333.
Impact factors are a metric that reflect the frequency that peer-reviewed journals are cited by researchers, making them an important tool for evaluating a journal's quality.
Highlights in Health Sciences:
Wiley-Blackwell continues to demonstrate growth in the health sciences, with 310 Wiley-Blackwell health science journals receiving an impact factor in 2010.
Twenty-eight journals have increased their impact factor scoring by 0.5 or more, and 14 titles received an impact factor for the first time. Five Wiley-Blackwell titles are ranked number 1, and an additional 61 titles are ranked within the top ten of their category in the health sciences.
The impact factor for the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews (CDSR) is now 6.186 - the 4th consecutive year that CDSR has seen an increase. The Cochrane Database is now ranked in the top ten of the 151 titles in the Medicine, General & Internal category. The CDSR is part of The Cochrane Library, published by Wiley-Blackwell on behalf of The Cochrane Collaboration.
66% of Wiley-Blackwell Hematology titles saw an increase in their 2010 impact factor, with American Journal of Hematology increasing for the 5th year, to 3.576. The Journal of Pathology's impact factor also rose 12.5%, to 7.274.
In Gastroenterology & Hepatology, HPB, which moved to Wiley-Blackwell in 2009, received its first impact factor of 1.285 and Digestive Endoscopy has seen the biggest percentage increase this year, at 184%, increasing from 0.333 to 0.946.
Similarly, Geriatrics and Gerontology International, the official journal of the Japan Geriatrics Society, increased its impact factor by 149% from 0.717 to 1.782 and moved up to 10th position in the Gerontology (Social Sciences) category.
Wiley-Blackwell publishes eight of the top 20 Nursing (Science) journals and 23 of the 88 titles listed in this category. Ten titles saw an increase in their impact factor, including Journal of Obstetric, Gynecologic & Neonatal Nursing (JOGNN), published on behalf of AWHONN.
In Substance Abuse, Addiction Biology and Addiction maintain their number 1 and number 2 rankings, while Alcoholism: Clinical & Experimental Research claims the number 3 ranking with an impact factor of 3.468.
In Dentistry, Journal of Clinical Periodontology was ranked number 1 for the second consecutive year. Thirteen Wiley-Blackwell Dentistry journals saw an increase in impact factor in 2010.
In Veterinary Sciences, 13 titles saw a rise in impact factor, most notably Transboundary and Emerging Diseases which increased from 1.854 to 2.448 and is now ranked in the top ten at number 7.
Highlights in Chemistry, Physical Sciences and Engineering:
Angewandte Chemie, a journal of the German Chemical Society published under the Wiley-VCH imprint, has again increased its impact factor to 12.730. Celebrating its 50th anniversary, Angewandte Chemie International Edition has further strengthened its position as the leading chemistry journal publishing primary research and review articles.
The impact factor for Advanced Materials increased by almost 30% to 10.857, reaffirming the quality of the journal and the interdisciplinary service it provides.
Laser & Photonics Reviews saw a further increase in its impact factor, rising from 5.814 to 9.297 and retaining its rank at number 2 in Optics.
Five recently launched journals received their first impact factor including ChemCatChem, co-owned and supported by ChemPubSoc Europe (an association of 16 European chemical societies), entering the ranks with an impact factor of 3.345.
Six journals hold top subject category rankings including Advanced Synthesis and Catalysis for the 8th consecutive year. Medicinal Research Reviews (10.228), Computer-Aided Civil and Infrastructure Engineering, and the Journal of the Royal Statistical Society Series B rose to number 1 for the first time. Acta Crystallographica Section A, published by the International Union of Crystallography/Wiley-Blackwell, remains number 1 in its field with an impact factor of 54.333.
Highlights in Life Sciences:
Within Life Sciences nine journals are ranked at number 1. Six journals retain their number 1 rankings – Evolutionary Anthropology in the Anthropology category, Fish and Fisheries in the Fisheries category, Global Change Biology in the Biodiversity Conservation category, Global Ecology and Biogeography in the Geography, Physical category, Journal of Avian Biology in the Ornithology category, Molecular Nutrition and Food Research in the Food Science & Technology category. Three journals rise to number 1 ranking – Ecology Letters in the Ecology category, Anatomical Sciences Education in the Education, Scientific Disciplines category and Wildlife Monographs in the Zoology category.
Recently launched journals that achieved an impact factor for the first time, include EMBO Molecular Medicine – 8.833, ranked 4th amongst primary research journals in the category Medicine, Research and Experimental and is the top molecular medicine journal by impact factor. Conservation Letters received its first impact factor – 4.694 and is ranked 3rd in the Biodiversity Conservation category and Reviews in Aquaculture – 3.462 and ranked 3rd in the Fisheries category.
For the seventh consecutive year Ecology Letters increased its impact factor to 15.253 and has risen to number 1 ranking journal in Ecology.
Highlights in Social Sciences and Humanities
Wiley-Blackwell has the highest number of JCR indexed social science publications of any academic publisher.
Twenty-nine titles have received their first impact factor, including Management and Organisation Review with an impact factor of 2.806 and Journal of Business Logistics with an impact factor of 3.905, entering the top ten Management subject category ranking.
There has been an increase in the number of top ten rankings to 80, including five top ranking titles; Child Development, Econometrica, Journal of Policy Analysis and Management, Monographs of the Society for Research in Child Development and Milbank Quarterly which is ranked number 1 in two subject categories.
The Journal of Finance saw an increase in impact factor to 4.151 – reaching number 2 in the Business & Finance category and rising to number 5 in the Economics category.
The British Journal of Educational Technology increased its impact factor by 70% to 2.139, Family Process by 51% to 1.926, and Sociologia Ruralis by 37% to 1.978.
R&D Management and American Business Law Journal both climbed 21 places in the Business category, now ranked at 40 and 41 respectively.
