科研人员使用1962年到1991年在挪威出生的男性认知能力数据与家庭数据，研究了随着时间推移人群智商的变化这种效应被称为Flynn效应结果发现人群的正的和负的智商趋势都可以在家庭内部观察到，这提示环境因素而非变化的家庭遗传组成很可能造成了挪威人群智商的多数变化，这些发现挑战了与Flynn效应有关的替代假说。
