Wallow North and Horseshoe 2 Fires in Arizona on June 16, 2011

image: The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA's Terra satellite acquired this image of the fires on June 16, 2011 at 18:00 UTC (2:00 p.m. EDT). Active fire areas appear as red dots, and smoke is blowing to the northeast. On Friday, June 17, 495,016 acres have been affected by the Wallow North fire and Inciweb reported that it was 33 percent contained. Inciweb, the "Incident Information System" website, (www.inciweb.org) is an inter-agency all-risk incident information management system. The National Weather Service issued another Red Flag Warning for June 17, which means gusty winds and low humidity. Critical fire weather is expected through Sunday, June 19, the day the winds are forecast to be strongest on the weekend. view more
