上皮組織の境目を保つのは細胞の接着性の違い 免疫系で働く遺伝子の接着分子としての新機能を発見

土地が区画化されているように、私たちの体の中にある組織も区画化されています。区画間の境目を維持する仕組みについてはこれまで長い論争が続いていました。東北大学大学院生命科学研究科の梅津大輝助教、倉永英里奈教授らのグループは、細胞同士の接着性の違いによって境目が維持されるという、50年以上も前に提案された仮説が正しいことを上皮組織において初めて証明しました。その役割を担うのは、免疫細胞において病原体の認識に働くToll遺伝子群の一つでした。免疫系で働く遺伝子が接着分子として多くの組織で利用されている可能性が考えられます。本研究成果は12月10日付けでNature Communications誌に掲載されました。
